Carb day for the Indianapolis 500 ended in another showing of Ganassi dominance.
Tony Kanaan set the fastest time in this final session before the main event on Sunday with a speed of 227.114 mph. His teammate Marcus Ericsson came up in second with pole-sitter Scott Dixon in fourth.
“We’ve been happy with the car all week,” Kanaan said. “That is no secret that the cars are good. We did a few pit stops there, run a couple things. But honestly, we didn’t change anything.”
Rookie David Malukas did a half-spin into turn 1 after making contact with Santino Ferrucci and then hit the safer barrier as the car suffered extensive damage. Ferrucci was held in his pit box for 20 minutes as a result.
Colton Herta had a major crash 20 minutes later, the car wiggled and smashed into the turn 1 SAFER barrier. The car flipped over and dragged into turn 2 where the front wing hit the barrier again.
All 33 drivers in the starting field participated in the final practice.
The 106th running of the Indianapolis 500 will be at 12:30 ET on NBC.
