Team Penske has been on strong pace all weekend, resulting in these 1-2-3 slots for tomorrows race at Portland International Raceway. For the second to last round of the season.

Two of the championship contenders, Scott Dixon and Marcus Ericsson, got out in round one group two.

The two Rookie of the Year contenders, David Malukas and Christian Lungaard, were strong on pace, Lungaard got P4 and Malukas P9

Mclaughlin, though, beat them all.

“Credit to everyone at Team Penske,” McLaughlin said. “We weren’t great here last year but we’ve come back here with three hotrods. We’re all pushing each other – Will, Josef and myself. To get pole is obviously a great thing. The Freightliner Chevy feels good. The Chevy power is great. I’m looking forward to the race tomorrow.”

Newgarden could’ve gotten pole, but he said, “I just messed it up, plain and simple,” he said. “I whiffed in Turn 7 on my quick lap and probably dropped two or three tenths.”

There have been a lot of first corner crashes in the past at this racetrack, so we will see who may get taken out tomorrow.
