Arrow McLaren SP driver Felix Rosenqvist may have proved his worth to the team to possibly stay in IndyCar. Beating out Andretti driver Alexander Rossi, who will drive for McLaren in 2023, to claim pole position.
“Our Arrow McLaren SP Chevrolet was unbelievable; it was on rails all day and I felt so calm in the car,” Rosenqvist said. “I think I knew when I did that lap that it was the one. Big thanks to the team for giving me a really good car. I think the car is more suited to me this year so I can maximize it everywhere we go.”
“That’s a huge effort from Felix,” Rossi said. “Good job for him. This is by far the best result we’ve had here as a team. We had a good test here last month and very relieved it translated.”
If Chip Ganassi Racing driver Alex Palou’s lawsuit with the team doesn’t go in his favor, then Rosenqvist is basically guaranteed a spot, but if it does work out in Palou’s favor, then maybe not, but this performance might change that.
Championship leader Marcus Ericsson didn’t have a good qualifying, going into group 2, his car just rolled down the track and came to a stop, he slid down to the last row and will start P25 for tomorrow.
The Chip Ganassi Racing team had more woes as Scott Dixon qualified only 20th, meaning he would have to gain places tomorrow to stay in title contention.
The weather tomorrow is supposed to be sunny.
The Gallagher Grand Prix at IMS Road Cours will take place at 12 PM EDT tomorrow.
